NightWatch

Take control of epilepsy at night

Effective seizure detection system

Caring for people with epilepsy is demanding and often stressful.

Seizures can be frightening. Some may cause serious injury or lead to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), particularly when seizures occur at night without supervision.

NightWatch+ detects the most dangerous seizures during sleep and alerts caregivers. Its clinically proven performance improves nighttime safety and reduces caregiver stress.

NightWatch+

NightWatch+ consists of a comfortable, wireless sensor worn on the upper arm that continuously monitors heart rate and movement during sleep to detect seizures.

The US version of NightWatch+ is intended for use at home or in residential care settings by children aged 4 to 16 years who are diagnosed with epilepsy and experience nocturnal epileptic motor seizures, as well as by their caregivers. When a potentially dangerous seizure is detected, the sensor wirelessly transmits an alert to the alarm station, notifying a caregiver.

NightWatch+ seizure detection technology was invented and developed in collaboration with neurologists, patient organizations, universities, and high-tech industry partners.

Audio and visual alarms when a possible epileptic seizure is detected
Ready to use out of the box, with no configuration required
Free access to the NightWatch portal for seizure monitoring
Alarm notifications can be forwarded to nurse call systems (PRO version only)
Designed for maintenance-free everyday use

Nocturnal epileptic seizures

NightWatch+ detects the following seizure types:

  • Tonic-Clonic seizures (TC)
  • Tonic seizures (if clustered or prolonged >30 seconds)

  • Hyperkinetic seizures

  • TC-like seizures

The NightWatch Portal

NightWatch+ can upload detailed sensor data to an online portal, if connected to the internet. This helps caregivers understand how the night progressed and why alarms may have been generated. Setup instructions are included in the portal manual.

Clinical validation of NightWatch

NightWatch has undergone rigorous clinical validation in the home setting. During its study, 2310 nights (28173 h), including 552 nocturnal epileptic major motor seizures, were analyzed for children (4-16 years of age). For children, the mean sensitivity for all major motor seizure types NightWatch detects is 90%, and for tonic-clonic seizures, the most dangerous seizure type, it is 98%.

The detection algorithm technology was validated over thousands of nights by the Dutch Epilepsy Center SEIN and the Academic Center for Epileptology at Kempenhaeghe. Their findings showed the technology to be significantly more effective than alternative approaches.

Built with Certified Quality and FDA Clearance

The US version of NightWatch+ is a medical device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under 510(k) number K243199. It is manufactured in the USA under a Quality Management System certified to ISO 13485 and compliant with 21 CFR Part 820.
